Frequently asked questions
Is this background remover really free?
Yes. There are no credits, no watermarks, no per-image charges and no premium tier gating your downloads. The AI model runs on your own device, so removing a background costs us nothing per image — that is what makes unlimited free use possible.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. The background removal model runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly or WebGPU. Your images are processed on your device and are never uploaded, stored, or seen by us.
What resolution do I get when I download?
You get the full original resolution of the image you started with. If you upload a 4000×3000 photo, your transparent PNG download is 4000×3000 — never a downscaled preview.
Which image formats are supported?
You can open JPG, PNG and WebP images — anything your browser can display. Downloads are always PNG, because PNG supports transparency. Very large images (for example 100+ megapixel scans) may be limited by your device's memory.
Why does the first image take a few seconds longer?
The first time you use the tool, your browser downloads the 4.6 MB AI model. It is then cached, so every image after that — and every future visit — starts processing almost instantly.
What kinds of photos work best?
Photos with a clear subject work best: product shots, portraits, pets, cars and logos. Extremely fine detail such as flyaway hair against a busy background can be less precise than high-end studio software — that is the honest trade-off of a free model that runs on your own device.
